The WCPD Explorer Post #499 was recognized and honored at tonight’s West Covina City Council meeting.

The West Covina Explorer Post #499 recently completed in the Chandler AZ Explorer Competition against many other Explorer Posts/ teams from around the USA. Our WCPD Explorers and Advisors participated in 8 events all together bringing in impressive results. The results were the following:

5th Place in the Tubular Assault (bus assault) Team event.
3rd place in Hogan’s Alley (shoot don’t shoot) Team event.
Captain Leslie Rascon took 2nd place in the female pistol shoot event
Officers Ian Paparro and Chris Quezada competed against other Explorer Advisors:
Officer Paparro took 1st place in the SWAT fitness challenge
Officer Quezada took 1st place in the men’s pistol shoot and 2nd in the 5k run.

We would like to thank all of our young explorers who worked so hard and represented the City of West Covina and WCPD so well! We would also like to thank Chief Marc Taylor, The West Covina Council members along with all the community businesses and individuals who help support our Police Explorers. Without this valuable support, these young men and woman would not be able to have this experience.

Officer’s Jeff Mosley and Dave Sifling encounter a homeless person sleeping on the concrete floor in a sleeping bag curled up in front of a store at The Heights. When the officers contacted the man, they learned he was a homeless veteran in desperate need.
The man, William Mack had lost his legs do to a bone infection and was dependent on a wheelchair that was by his side. The officers invited Mr. Mack for a cup of coffee and biscuit on them at #Starbucks.
After Mr. Mack shared he was from Florida, where his brother and mother are currently located, officers assisted him with a cell phone to call his family to let them know he was okay. Utilizing additional resources from WCPD, the officers requested Officer Anthony Coppi who works as a H.O.P.E (Homless Outreach) Officer and he assisted with additional resources getting Mr. Mack off the streets, safe and soon, back to his family.
