Law Enforcement Exploring provides educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and the nation.
Nationally, over 33,000 Explorers and 8,425 adult volunteers participate in Law Enforcement Exploring. The program highlights include: the National Law Enforcement Exploring Leadership Academies, ride-alongs, career achievement awards, National Law Enforcement Exploring Conferences, and scholarship opportunities. Law Enforcement Exploring combines training with community service and ride-alongs in police vehicles.

The WCPD Explorer Post typically meets on a weekly basis during the year with additional days required for community service, competitions, or ride-alongs. WCPD Explorers attend an 18-week Academy which focuses on law, discipline, and self-control. Throughout the years, WCPD Explorer Post #499 has won many awards at Explorer competitions.
The West Covina Police Department Explorer Post #499 is open to young men and women ages 14-21 with an interest in learning more about careers in the field of Law Enforcement. Candidates must have no criminal background. If interested, orientation meetings for interested candidates are held at the West Covina Police Department on the first Tuesday of every month (no holidays) at 6:00pm.
