West Covina is a community of 110,000 residents covering 17 square miles, located in the San Gabriel Valley just 20 miles east of Los Angeles. The city hosts two regional shopping malls and has a strong civic base of community involvement.

West Covina Police Department is a full service police department with 119 sworn officers. The department consists of Patrol, Investigations, and Administrative Divisions, and has its own SWAT and HNT teams, K-9’s, Traffic Unit, Mounted Enforcement Team, and Special Enforcement Team. It boasts a 3/12 work schedule for patrol and 4/10 for investigations. AR-15 rifles, Less Lethal weapons, and MDC’s are standard in all police units. WCPD runs a P.O.S.T. training center that incorporates simulators and hands-on safety training components.
